Road Accident / Violence Events (RAVE)

What we do

Welcome to RAVE - the Research Project that investigates the reasons behind road accidents and aims to uncover what is often hidden or misunderstood in conventional understandings of them. Our primary focus is on automobility and the complex entanglements between humans, non-humans, and infrastructure that contribute to road accidents.

Unlike traditional explanations for accidents that often attribute guilt solely to the driver, RAVE takes a more nuanced approach. We believe that a deeper understanding of the situation surrounding accidents is needed to better grasp the underlying factors involved. Our project blurs the boundaries between culprits and victims, as well as between humans and non-humans, to explore the complexity of road accidents.

To achieve our aims, we will be conducting interviews with individuals who have been involved in road accidents. Through these interviews, we hope to gain insights into their experiences and how they connect with the world around them - including other humans, objects, animals, and technologies. Our interdisciplinary team of experts will analyze these experiences to identify the various factors that contribute to road accidents.

RAVE is more than just a research project - it's a community of researchers, experts, and participants who are committed to exploring the complex relationships between people, machines, and infrastructure. Through our work, we aim to reimagine automobility and challenge traditional explanations of road accidents. Together, we can work towards a better understanding of the complex factors that contribute to accidents and create a better world for ourselves and future generations.

RAVE is funded by the international project WEAVE, the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR), and the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).
